NOELVILLE, ON – Lucas Signoretti, Owen Fergusson and Kyle den Ouden had two goals each as the Espanola Paper Kings dumped the French River Rapids 6-2 at the Noelville Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Lucas Signoretti got the Paper Kings rolling as he scored his 35th only 3:35 into the game, as he jumped on a loose puck on the left side, then the talented forward slipped a shot by sprawling Rapids goalie Elijah Grant.
Then it was Kyle den Ouden just over two minutes later which gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. den Ouden took a stretch pass from Liam McDonald and ripped a shot by Grant at 5:50 of the first period.
Early in the second, Owen Fergusson got a loose puck near the right post and spun around and beat Grant for a 3-0 lead just over a minute into the period.
Signoretti got his second on a turnover on the right half boards and he drove into the slot and beat Grant for a 4-0 lead at 2:33 of the second.
The Rapids used a couple of quick passes after a turnover at the blueline as Gavin Haslam got his 3rd on a nifty pass from Jesse Lefebvre at 7:08 beating Paper Kings netminder Andrew Gaulton.
The Paper Kings responded shortly after as Kyle den Ouden netted his second on a rebound off an Atley Gringorten shot which made it 5-1 Paper Kings not yet at the halfway point of the contest.
The Paper Kings added to their lead when Owen Fergusson scored his second of the game shorthanded in the opening minute of the third on a breakaway which made it 6-1.
Michael Christopoulos scored a late power play marker for the Rapids at 18:07.
The win improves the Paper Kings record to 28-18-1 while the Rapids stumble to 8-36-1-1.
