HEARST, Ont. – Aiden Kalin scored three times to lead the Hearst Lumberjacks to a 6-3 win over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Claude Larose Recreation Centre Saturday night.
Kalin netted all three of his tallies in the final frame for the Lumberjacks as they pulled out the home victory.
North Bay Battalion OHL prospect Jesse Lefebvre had a pair of goals for the Rapids in the loss.
Late in the first, the Lumberjacks cashed in on a power play as Matt Gorzenik put home his 6th at 15:31 for a 1-0 Lumberjacks lead.
The Rapids replied as Lefebvre got behind the Lumberjacks defence and went in all alone on Russ DeCoste, who made the initial stop but Lefebvre poked the rebound through his legs to make it 1-1.
The Lumberjacks got the lead back at 5:18 when Noah Janicki netted his 7th to make it 2-1 for the home squad.
Less than two minutes later, Jack Robinson potted his 17th for a 3-1 Hearst lead.
At the halfway point of the period, the Rapids countered when Cameron Jansa scored on a penalty shot beating DeCoste and it was 3-2.
In the third period, Kalin put home his 20th on a Hearst power play for a 4-2 lead.
Kalin made it 5-2 for the Lumberjacks at 7:47.
Lefebvre cut into the lead with a power play marker for his second of the game at 11:10.
Kalin finished off the scoring with his hat trick goal in the dying seconds of the contest.
