NOELVILLE, ON – Jacob Lamoureux scored twice to lead the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to a 6-3 road win over the French River Rapids at the Noelville Arena on Sunday night.
The Gold Miners Luca Maiuri got the visitors on the board as Noah Woodward created a turnover at the French River line and slipped a pass over to his linemate to make it 1-0 at 12:44 beating Rapids goalie Brady Dyer.
The Gold Miners added on as Jamie Collins rushed through the neutral zone and split the Rapids defence before beating Dyer to make it 2-0 at 16:05.
However, a minute later the Rapids replied as Michael Christopoulos put home a rebound off a Jesse Lefebvre shot which made it 2-1 at 17:05.
Early in the second period, the Gold Miners added to the lead when Jacob Lamoureux pounced on a big rebound off a shot from Inde Abresch and beat Dyer for a 3-1 lead for the visitors at 1:06 of the middle frame.
That goal spelt the end of the night for Dyer, as the Rapids replaced him with Elijah Grant.
The Rapids closed the gap when Dominic Bzdyl took a stretch pass from Matthew Stringer and deked Miners netminder Graydon Mole to make it 3-2 at 6:11.
Early in the third, the Rapids capitalized on a 5 on 3 power play as Daniil Grishachev drove the net from the left side and beat Mole at 1:26 of the third and it was 3-3.
The Miners got the lead back later on a power play. Right off a faceoff, Jason Towindo put home a rebound off a shot from Cole Ellis only 6 seconds into a power play which made it 4-3 Gold Minder at 8:20.
Just over a minute later, the Miners cashed in on a 3 on 1 as Jacob Lamoureux rushed down the right side and beat Elijah Grant for the 5-3 lead at 9:35.
The Gold Miners added to the lead late in the period as Bruce Grey scored from long distance as he fired a puck from inside the Miners left faceoff dot and put it into the empty cage at 18:41 for a shorthanded empty net tally.
The win moves the Gold Miners within 6 points of the fourth-place Iroquois Falls Storm in the NOJHL East with a pair of games in hand while the struggling Rapids, who sit in last place in the NOJHL East, are winless in their past 22 (0-21-0-1).
