GALLERY: Big first helps Cubs dump Rapids

SUDBURY, ON – The Greater Sudbury Cubs scored six times in the opening 20 minutes on their way to a convincing 7-1 win over the visiting French River Rapids in NOJHL action the the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex on Thursday night.

Marshall McCharles led the Cubs attack with a pair of first period tallies.

Oliver Smith supplied three assists and Cameron Shanks added one goal and two assists in the Cubs win.

McCharles got the scoring going early has he netted his 11th at 1:25 as he raced down the left wing and fired a shot by Rapids goalie Elijah Grant.

Cameron Shanks added to the lead at 5:01 to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.

Hudson Chitaroni scored just over three minutes later for his 26th of the campaign to make it 3-0 Cubs.

Just over a minute later the offence continued to roll as Brock Houser got into the offensive outburst with his 8th which made it 4-0.

That goal chased Rapids starter Elijah Grant as he allowed 4 goals on 15 shots before he was replaced by Brady Dyer.

McCharles increased the Cubs lead with his 12th at 15:08 of the opening frame.

Cubs defenceman Mason Chitaroni got into the scoring parade with his 6th just over 30 seconds later.

The Rapids finally beat Noah Metivier at 6:47 of the second when Dominic Bzdyl netted his 10th on an unassisted tally to make it 6-1.

Ethan Larmand rounded out the scoring with his 5th at 2:56 of the third.
