COCHRANE, Ont. – The Pelham Panthers scored twice in the final three minutes of regulation to help them double up the French River Rapids of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League 4-2 Saturday at the Polar Bear Classic preseason tournament at Tim Horton Events Centre.
Pelham also opened the scoring early in the contest on a Devin Sandors marker.
However, French River countered during a man advantage to level the proceedings 4:46 with Ryan Gallant finishing off a Levi Siau feed.
The Rapids power play allowed them to take the lead just past the eight-minute mark of the second stanza thanks to Will Frustaglio.
However the Panthers would draw level before the session ended as Thomas Young knotted the affair at 2-2.
The tight-checking match-up saw the GOJHL side collect the game-winner at 17:12 of the third as Eli Pelfreyman notched the eventual difference maker.
Noah Caperchiove then added some insurance 45 seconds later to round out the scoring.
Brandon McCorriston picked up the win in net for Pelham while Kevin Donaghey suffered the loss for French River.
