POWASSAN, Ont. – Freshly acquired forward Nicolas Case collected the game-winner and added an assist in his Powassan Voodoos debut as he helped lead his new team to a 6-3 triumph over the visiting French River Rapids in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Wednesday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Aaron Dickson gave Powassan the lead seven minutes into the contest only to see French River’s Christian Gaudreau notch his ninth of the season at 14:13 to tie it at 1-1.
However the Voodoos came right back 25 seconds later to regain the lead on a Tyson Gilmour effort.
The home side picked up one more before the first period was complete as Case, who was picked up in a deal with the Soo Thunderbirds, set-up Harrison Israels for his 16th tally at 18:57.
After a scoreless middle stanza, the Rapids pulled to within one at 8:53 of the third on Gaudreau’s second goal of the contest.
French River then converted on a man advantage opportunity at 14:19 to knot the score at 3-3 thanks to Levi Siau’s 13th.
Regrouping, Powassan went back in front for good just over a half-minute later on the eventual difference maker from Case.
Dylan D’Agostino at 16:53 and another by Dickson late, which was deposited into an empty net, rounded out the win for the Voodoos.
Christian Cicigoi was called upon to make 43 stops to record the victory while Josh Barrett saw 54 attempts in defeat for the Rapids in his first game with the club after coming over from the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
Cameron Moore and Rob McCollum dished out two assists each to aid the Powassan offensive cause.
