TIMMINS, Ont. – After giving up the night’s opening tally, the Timmins Rock countered with the final four markers to defeat the French River Rapids 4-1 Friday in their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League home opener in front of 1,182 fans at McIntyre Arena.
French Rapids the early edge three and a half minutes into the contest on an Alex Paul goal with help from Ty Chambers and Cooper Bowman.
Answering back, Timmins drew level at 11:45 as Zachary Smith notched his first NOJHL effort.
The Rock then tacked on two more before the opening frame was complete thanks to Cameron Kosurko and Josh Dickson, with just two seconds left, to go up 3-1.
After a scoreless middle session, Karter Renouf added some insurance for Timmins five minutes into the third in what proved to be the evening’s final tally.
Stewart Parnell chipped offensively for the Rock with two assists.
Shots on goal favoured the home side by a 44-14 margin with Tyler Masternak picking up the win while Sebastian Woods suffered the loss.
