GALLERY: Sequin’s hat trick helps Rock rally to edge Rapids

NOELVILLE – Trailing by two entering the third period, the Timmins Rock roared back with a trio of unanswered tallies to pull out a 5-4 come from behind decision over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Saturday at Noelville Arena.

Special teams helped French River start strong as they picked up a power play goal from Will Frustaglio and one shorthanded off the stick Chad Lafortune to go up by a pair after the opening stanza.

After Philippe Daoust put the Rapids up by three early in the middle session, Timmins countered with a man advantage effort off the stick Owen Shier to put the guests on the board.

However, Cameron Conover answered for French River at 18:33 of the second to put them up 4-1.

Coming back after that, Derek Sequin started the rally in the final minute of the frame as he finished off a late Rock power play at 19:38.

Building on the momentum of that late strike, Seguin tacked on two more, 26 seconds apart, in third to finish off a natural hat trick and knot the affair at 4-4.

Riley Brousseau then capped off the Timmins comeback by notching the game-winner at 8:15 and round out the night’s scoring.

Offensively, Gregory Arnburg dished out two assists for the Rock as did Reid Manning for the Rapids.

Jean-Marc Brisson in relief picked up the win for Timmins by stopping 26 of 27 in nearly 38 minutes of work.

Rock starter Tyler Masternak allowed three on 18 attempts with French River goaltender Carson Murison seeing 50 shots in defeat.
