Savard posts 2nd shutout in 2nd straight start
NOELVILLE, Ont. – MacKenzie Savard stopped all 32 shots fired his way to post a shutout in his second consecutive start in a 5-0 victory by the Rayside-Balfour Canadians over the French River Rapids Wednesday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Noelville Arena.
Savard, who allowed three against in a relief stint Monday vs. Powassan, blanked Kirkland Lake with a 35-save performance in his previous start back on Saturday.
The Canadians picked up the eventual game-winner in Wednesday’s contest against the Rapids late in the first period as Cayse Ton collected his 10th of the season with just 14 seconds remaining in the frame.
Bradley Chenier then put the visitors up by a pair just before the middle stanza was a minute old.
Kyle Fransen made it 3-0 at 8:56 of the second while Brody Brunet added to the Rayside-Balfour cushion two and a half minutes later.
Chenier then rounded out the night’s scoring with 3:42 to go in the third to round out the scoring as combined with his earlier marker and an assist gave the rookie forward a three-point night.
Alec St. Georges was busy throughout in the French River net as he was tested 64 times in defeat.
