FRENCH RIVER – Entering the game having posted back-to-back Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutouts, Tyler Masternak saw his goalless run come to an end, but he only gave up one on 62 shots faced to backstop the Timmins Rock to a 4-1 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Carson Burlington’s initial league tally started Timmins off on the right note as he beat Rapids starter Marshall Frappier at 4:07.
The Rock kept coming and tacked on another nearly nine minutes later with Mahingan Decontie finishing off the work of teammates Keegan McMullen and Matt Capisciolto.
Heading to the middle session, the visitors added another with Derek Seguin securing his team-leading 18th at 2:29.
A third period power play helped French River put an end to Masternak’s time without giving up a goal at 182 minutes and 47 seconds when Levi Siau converted during the Rapids man advantage opportunity midway through the frame.
Philippe Daoust had one of the assists on the Liau marker to help him run a point streak to 10 straight outings.
Capisciolto did help secure the road win with a late tally to wrap up the win and help Timmins move into a share of top spot in both the NOJHL East Division as well as overall as they join Kirkland Lake with 37 points.
Much like Masternak, Frappier was also busy in the French River net as he faced 57 shots in a losing cause.
