French River battles Powassan to hard fought 3-3 double OT draw

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Bret McInall’s third goal of the game with just three seconds remaining in regulation lifted the French River Rapids into a tie game that eventually ended in a 3-3 double overtime draw vs. the Powassan Voodoos Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Noelville Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, Powassan got on the board first, a minute and a half into second stanza, as Michael Silveri scored his 10th of the season during a man advantage opportunity.

Jesse Anderson then made it 2-0 Voodoos at the 7:44 mark of the session.

Battling back, French collected a couple markers of their own before the second was complete starting with a McInall effort at 11:09 followed by his second tally with 19 seconds left in the frame.

Eric Champagne gave the visitors the lead once again at 6:50 of the third setting the stage for McInall’s dramatic tying tally in the final moments of regulation.

Neither side would score in both of the five-minute OT sessions as the game finished in a tie.

Zac McInall and Brennan Kelly had two assists for the Rapids as did Nicky Grose of the Voodoos.

Alec St-Georges was sensational in net for French River making 62 saves on the night helping his side earn a point.

Garrett Forrest made 26 stops for Powassan in the draw.
