SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that, out of an abundance of caution, that both tonight’s and tomorrow afternoon’s games between the Espanola Express and French River Rapids have been postponed.
These postponements were initiated by the NOJHL once it was informed that a that a member from one of the teams had been in contact with a person who had a positive initial result on a COVID-19 test.
The League was informed the risk is very low, however in concert with the NOJHL Policies and Procedures, the league made the decision to call off these two games.
“We want to make sure we continue to do the safest and follow the most prudent action in this situation and postponing these two games is the best and safest course of action,” offered NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“At the current time, no member of either club has had a positive result in testing or showing any symptoms, however we will continue to encompass an overabundance of caution on this,” added Mazzuca.
The teams will now enter the provincial and regional Public Health Unit (PHU) regulated quarantine period.
With that, the NOJHL will be announcing additional cohort schedules within the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers are scheduled to meet tonight in Sault Ste. Marie in a 7 p.m. start on HockeyTV.com.
