Express earn 1st shutout in narrow win vs. Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – J.P. Sabourin stopped all 31 shots he faced while Cameron Anklewich supplied the only goal of the game as the Espanola Express earned their first shutout in franchise history as they blanked the French River Rapids 1-0  Wednesday evening in a hard-fought Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Noelville Arena.

The tightly battled match-up saw the two sides go scoreless through one period of play.

Espanola captain Anklewich then notched the lone tally of the evening 2:17 into the middle stanza as he finished off the work Aaron Beauchamp and Joel Grandbois, who earned assists on the play.

Sabourin would do the rest for the Express as he shut the door on French River in picking up the win.

Alec St-Georges was equally as solid for the Rapids as he turned aside 33 of the 34 attempts he saw in the narrow setback.
