Cochrane holds off determined French River side

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got a pair of goals and two assists from Jon Marzec to helped them hold off the French River Rapids 5-3 Sunday afternoon in a tightly contested Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.

French River got things going offensively just past the four-minute mark of the contest as Zac McInall connected during a Rapids man advantage opportunity.

The Crunch got the equalizer late in the first as Aviv Milner scored to tie it with 37 seconds left in the first period.

Marzec staked Cochrane to their first lead early in the second, but the home side notched a late tally of their own in the middle stanza with B.J. Chard finding the back of the net at 18:18.

The Crunch came out in the third and went for good picking up markers from Jeremy McNeil and Dustin Cordeiro to make it 4-2 while Marzec added another into an empty net with 1:02 to go.

Competing to the end, the Rapids wrapped up the day’s scoring with 34 seconds remaining on a Tyler McGregor effort.

Allan Menary made 32 saves to record the win for the Crunch while Zach Mill was tested 52 times in defeat for French River.
