Cochrane clips French River at NOJHL Showcase
SUDBURY, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got a pair of goals from Austin Whelan to help them defeat the French River Rapids 5-1 Wednesday evening in Game 11 at the NOJHL Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
Cochrane came out strong in the opening 20 minutes as they carried the play to the Rapids outshooting them 19-6 and outscoring them 2-0 in the session.
French River’s power play came to life three minutes and four seconds into the second period with Christian Gaudreau tipping home a point shot from Gregory Trudeau-Paquet.
The third period was kicked off 30 seconds in with an errant point shot from Connor Lovie tipped in by Konnar Dechaine for his 11th of the season.
Cochrane’s power play capitalized twice in the last 10 minutes of the period, with Whelen burying home his second goal of the game off a point shot, before NOJHL leading scorer Braedan Cross potted his 13th of the season to round out the scoring.
Shots on goal in the contest favoured the Crunch by a 48-17 count with Leighton Williams picking up the win and Korlan Vader the defeat.
