FRENCH RIVER – Jordan Fielding picked up his first two Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League goals and assisted on the game-winner as the Cochrane Crunch collected a 5-3 decision over the French River Rapids Saturday at Noelville Arena
Cochrane got the evening’s scoring going 14:19 into the first period when Nicholas Grandy notched his eighth of the campaign to pick up the lone tally of the opening session.
Action in the second session saw French River tie it on a power play that carried over into the session as Ty Chambers’ man advantage effort at 1:03 even the score.
The Crunch came back to regain the lead thanks to Owen Perala five and a half minutes later.
It was more from the visitors as they tacked on three more before the middle frame was complete as Fielding sandwiched his two tallies around one from teammate Tyson Moore to give the guests a 5-1 cushion after two.
Battling back in the third, the Rapids got goals from Cooper Bowman, at even strength, and Will Frustagio, via the power play, to pull the home side closer, but Cochrane held on from there to secure the win.
Making 28 stops in the victory was Cody Levesque in the Crunch net while Ben Montgomery faced 28 shots in defeat for French River in two periods of work while Sebastian Woods turned aside all nine attempts he saw in playing the third.
