Canadians roll over Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians trio of Brett Whitehead, Connor Brown and Jackson Gunner combined for 10 points in an 8-1 victory over the French River Rapids Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.

Rayside-Balfour got going early in this one as Bradley Chenier notched his 22nd of the season 44 seconds into the contest.

Brown made it 2-0 near the 14-minute mark of the opening frame while Matthew Neault connected on the power play at 16:14 to put the visitors up by three through one.

The Canadians tacked on three more markers in the middle stanza to take control of the game on tallies by Danny Lepage, Otis Goldman and Brown’s second of the night.

After Gunner made it 7-0 in the third, Caleb Rich got one back for French River as he collected his 10th of the campaign.

Tristan Simm of Rayside-Balfour rounded out the scoring with 7:06 to go.

Whitehead finished with four assists while Gunner had two.

MacKenzie Savard made 32 saves to post the win for the Canadians.

Alec St-Georges was peppered with 58 shots against in defeat for the Rapids.
