FRENCH RIVER – The Powassan Voodoos picked up three points apiece from Tomas Yachmenev and Dylan D’Agostino to pace them past the French River Rapids 6-2 Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.
Powassan got the jump on French River with a pair of first period tallies courtesy of D’Agostino and Harrison Israels.
Heading into the middle stanza, the Rapids’ Adam Kusior connected 26 seconds into the session to pull his side to within one.
However a pair of man advantage efforts later in the frame by Yachmenev would put the visitors up 4-1 after 40 minutes.
Israels added his second of the night and 19th overall during a Powassan power play to up their cushion at 4:40.
Connor Loft got one back for the Rapids for his sixth of the campaign before the Voodoos’ Kobe Desmond wrapped up the scoring late to finish off the road win.
Christian Cicigoi made 35 saves to record victory for Powassan.
Justin Anderson started for French River and allowed two goals against on nine attempts before giving way to Andrew Rocha after the second Voodoos tally.
Rocha suffered the setback in relief handling 19 of 23 in 44:40 of relief.
