FRENCH RIVER – The Powassan Voodoos fell behind early, but countered by notching the night’s final four tallies as they went on to defeat the French River Rapids 4-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Wednesday evening at Noelville Arena.

As mentioned, French River was the first to strike on the night on Ben Naimool’s eighth marker of the season just past the seven-minute mark of the opening period.

Powassan was quick to get the equalizer however as Raf Praysner provided the tying goal at 8:07.

The Voodoos then got the eventual game-winner off the stick of Gregory Trudeau-Paquet with a mere 15 seconds left in the session.

Action in the middle stanza saw the visitors tack on two more to extend their cushion as Tomas Yachmenev and Seiji Martone both found the back of the Rapids to round out the scoring.

Powassan starter Owen Say, who along with Voodoos equipment manager J.J. Johnson, made their return to league play following their silver medal success at the recently completed World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek.

In Wednesday’s contest, Say made 30 saves to record the win while French River’s Ben Montgomery faced 37 shots against in defeat.
