GALLERY: Voodoos victorious over Rapids

POWASSAN, Ont. – A five-goal offensive barrage in the second period, including three on the power play, sent the Powassan Voodoos to a convincing 8-2 victory over the French River Rapids in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos special teams also helped them open the night’s scoring 16:24 into the contest as Gregory Trudeau-Paquet converted during a man advantage opportunity to put the hosts up by one after one.

Action in the middle stanza saw the NOJHL team leaders in tallies flex their offensive might once again striking five times in just over a five-minute span to take control of the contest.

Ryan Mills started the outburst at 3:02 before Parker Bowman tacked on another 29 seconds later.

Trudeau-Paquet then added his second of the evening during a power play as did Bowman on a two-man advantage before Joe Whittet’s sixth of the campaign with his side still up a skater put the Voodoos up by six after two periods of play.

French River came out quickly in the third to get themselves on the board with Ty Chambers collecting his initial league goal on assists from Alex Paul and Brandon Hass.

Recently reacquired forward Will Frustaglio made an impact in his first game back with the Rapids and scored with 7:07 remaining in regulation on a power play.

Powassan added two more in the late going, one off the stick of Matthew MacDougall as he celebrated his first NOJHL goal, before Ty Nicholson finished off the win.

Dylan Gajewski and Jacob Peterson-Galema chipped in with two assists in the triumph.

Voodoos goaltender Luke Greenwood made 21 saves to record the victory.

French River’s Sebastian Woods started for the Rapids and suffered the loss allowing six against on 36 chances while Ben Montgomery handled 18 of 20 in over 26 minutes of relief.
