POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos picked up big nights offensively from multiple skaters as they went on to throttle the French River Rapids 13-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Monday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.
It took the Voodoos just 85 seconds to get in flight in this one as Cade Herd collected his 17th goal and 130th career NOJHL point early to send the home side on their way.
They then went up by a pair near the five-minute mark of the first with Rico Rossi registering his 11th to make it 2-0.
It was more Powassan a few shifts after that with Cameron Moore adding to the outburst as they went up by three before the opening period was half over.
The onslaught continued with Henry Scott’s 12th at 13:35 before French River got one back off the stick of Levi Siau with help from Will Fletcher and Will Frustaglio.
The Voodoos kept coming though and tacked on two more courtesy of Whittet and Gabinen Kioki to take a 6-1 cushion to the intermission.
From there the hosts buried five more in the middle session to extend their gap as Seiji Martone, David Campbell, Brett Shawana, Kioki and Rossi all found the back of the net.
Whittet and Scott then completed the romp with third period markers to wrap things up.
Tomas Yachmenev had four assists in the one-side triumph with Rossi and Kioki having two helpers apiece to go with their multi-goal efforts while Whittet had five points in all.
The tally total for the club was the most for the Voodoos since back on January 27, 2017 when they lit the lamp 14 times against the same Rapids side.
Powassan starter Joe Vrbetic made 18 stops to record the victory in what was a penalty-free game.
French River netminder Carson Murison suffered the loss while Niko Manetas also saw time in goal in relief as the duo faced a combined 37 shots against in defeat.
