Voodoos soar past Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got a pair of goals and two assists from Tyler Peters along with a marker and three helpers courtesy of Tyler Gervais-Rolfe to help them power past the French River Rapids 10-3 Wednesday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Noelville Arena.

Powassan took a 2-0 lead after one period of play on tallies 19 seconds apart by Michael Silveri and Peters.

There was plenty of offensive production in the middle stanza as the two sides combined for nine goals, including six by the Voodoos.

Gervais-Rolfe, Peters, Daniel Walker, Danial Golba and a pair by Jake Staples were the Powassan marksmen in the session.

Countering for French River in the frame were B.J. Chard, Adrian Nicholas, with his first NOJHL goal, and Bret McInall.

Silveri and Eric Champagne rounded things out for the Voodoos with additional markers in the third to cap off the win.

Mario Cavaliere finished the night with 36 stops to pick up the victory for Powassan.

The Rapids duo of Zach Mills and Alec St. Georges combined to face a whopping 75 shots in defeat for French River.
