Thunderbirds extend win streak to 8

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Zach Senecal tallied twice, including the game-winner, helping the Soo Thunderbirds skate to their eighth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Friday evening as they defeated the French River Rapids 6-1 at Noelville Arena.

Sault Ste. Marie jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Matt Pinder and Senecal.

The visitors then erupted for four tallies in the middle session to take control of the contest on goals by Michael Caruso, Khadyn Butterfly, Caleb Boman and one more by Senecal.

French River did get one back 14 seconds into the third on a Taylor Karr effort in what would be the final goal of the evening.

Brett Jeffries and Matthew Mitchell chipped in with two assists apiece to help aid the Thunderbirds cause.

Brendon Gordon finished with 17 saves to record the win for the T-Birds while Alec St-Georges was pelted with 56 shots against in defeat for the Rapids.
