Rayside-Balfour skates past French River

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians got two goals and three assists from Ryan Erickson while Bradley Chenier set-up four to help them thump the French River Rapids 9-4 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at Noelville Arena.

Quinn Robelle staked French River to an early lead, but Rayside-Balfour stormed back with four markers before the opening stanza was complete on tallies supplied by Tristan Simm, Erickson, Cayse Ton and Otis Goldman.

Danny Lepage’s 10th of the campaign 92 seconds into the middle frame made it 5-1 Canadians.

Robelle knocked in his second of the night at 7:18 to bring the Rapids closer, but the visitors tacked on two more as Ton and Lepage both connected for a second time.

French River’s Tyler McGregor’s fourth of the season at 16:31 of the second brought the home side to within four heading into the third.

Rayside-Balfour put the game away in the final session getting goals Makenzie MacMillan and Erickson to go up 9-3 before the Rapids Brandon Dumouchel wrapped up the night’s scoring with two minutes left with Robelle picking up an assist to complete a three-point night.

Brett Whitehead and Matthew Neault picked up two helpers apiece for the Canadians.

Shots on goal favoured Rayside-Balfour by a 47-31 margin with Jessie Morin picking up the win.

Kyle Martelle suffered the loss for French River stopping 23 of 29 while Zach Mills made 15 saves on 19 attempts in relief.
