Rapids ink Wolves draft pick

The French River Rapids Jr A Hockey Club are excited to announce the signing of Ryan Smith of Bala, Ontario.

Ryan played for the North Central Ontario Predators where he played Minor-Midget AAA. Ryan was selected in the 11th round to the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL Priority Draft. He also represented Team OMHA Black at the OHL Gold Cup this spring.

“Ryan played an important role for his team this past year and he was recognized by his accomplishments” stated Rapids Director of Hockey Operations Sherry Bassin. “He came to our camp and really impressed me with his speed and ability so see the ice. I am very pleased he chose the Rapids to play Jr hockey”.

The OHL Sudbury Wolves are happy to see one of their young prospects close to them, “Ryan is a very skilled player who we felt was the best player on his Minor-Midget AAA team. The move to Junior A and to the NOJHL will be great for his development” stated General Manager Rob Papineau.

“Ryan was sought after by many Jr teams” stated Shawn Frappier, Head Coach of the Rapids, “I’m very pleased we were able to add a player of this caliber to our roster. He is a smart and intelligent hockey player who is a very strong skater and who has the great ability to get the puck to his teammates.”

“I’m excited to be playing for the Rapids this season,” stated Smith, “The French River has great fan support and it’s a community with passionate fans. I would like to thank Rapids Management for giving me the chance to play there. I can’t wait till the season starts to be with my teammates!”

“I was really impressed with Ryan at the OHL Sudbury Wolves rookie camp this April”, stated Rapids President Paul Frustaglio, “Ryan is a hardworking and dedicated hockey player and we believe he will get to the next level with the Wolves. We feel Ryan will contribute right away as a rookie player. I’m extremely happy that we could add a player of Ryan’s skill to our roster.”
