NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the forward trio of Spencer Hughes (French River Rapids), Tyson Doucette (Soo Thunderbirds) and Tyler Schwindt (Timmins Rock) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending December 5.

SPENCER HUGHES, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – A five-point weekend for the 16-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., helped send the Rapids on their way to a pair of road victories.

Hughes had the game-winning goal, and an assist, Friday as French River upended Timmins at McIntyre Arena.

He then tallied twice more and set-up another Saturday to lead his side to a triumph in Cochrane Saturday.

With 24 points to his credit in his first 27 league games, Hughes currently sits eighth overall in NOJHL rookie scoring with his 10 markers and 14 assists.

TYSON DOUCETTE, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Doing his part offensively, Doucette played a part in four of the six goals Sault Ste. Marie picked up in a pair of 3-0 wins last week.

Skating for his hometown side, the 17-year-old forward also averaged two points per-victory in the time frame.

This included two tallies, featuring the game-winner, Friday at Espanola as he now leads the Thunderbirds in markers scored with 13.

Doucette also chipped in with a couple of helpers as he has already established personal single-season totals in goals (13), assists (9) and points (22).

TYLER SCHWINDT, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – Currently riding a nine-game point streak, the Rock captain continues to pace his team in offensive production.

Etching his name and number in each of Timmins’ three match-ups during the time frame, Schwindt provided a game-winner and a trio of assists to help his club move back into first overall in the NOJHL standings.

The 20-year-old from New Hamburg, Ont., sits third in league scoring with 32 points in 26 contests, including 18 goals, three of which are game-winning efforts.

His tally total also ties him for third-best among all NOJHL skaters.
