NOJHL announces Gongshow Gear players of the month for September

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Saturday its respective Gongshow Gear Inc., player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for September.

GONGSHOW GEAR PLAYER OF THE MONTH – BRAEDEN CROSS, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH: In nine games last month the 20-year-old Sechelt, B.C., native amassed 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists.

Those totals lead all NOJHL skaters heading into league play tonight.

Cross got on the score sheet in eight of his teams nine outings in September as he scored in six of those nine contests for the 7-0-1-1 Crunch.

He is also currently third in the entire 132-team Canadian Junior Hockey League in offensive production trailing only former Kirkland Gold Miners standout Brayden Stortz (Wellington – OJHL) and Joel Caron (Ste-Agathe – QJHL) who have registered 26 and 25 points respectively.

GONGSHOW GEAR DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – DAYTON MURRAY, (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS: The-19-year-old Spruce Grove, Alta., product’s first month in the NOJHL was productive one.

Murray suited up in nine games for the Voodoos and tallied six times, including one game-winner, and helped set-up three others.

His half dozen markers lead all league defenceman while his nine total points tie him for top spot among NOJHL D-men.

GONGSHOW GEAR GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – NATE MCDONALD, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Appearing in seven contests in September McDonald was solid for Powassan going 4-1-0-0 overall.

Two of those four victories were shutouts, which leads the league in that department.

Among league netminders who have seen at least 300 minutes of game action so far this season, McDonald leads that group in goals-against average at 2.08 and sits second in save percentage at .928.

GONGSHOW GEAR ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – PHIL CARON, (D) IROQUOIS FALLS ESKIS: As one of the youngest players in the NOJHL this season, Caron has made an immediate impression.

In eight games played, the 16-year-old from Timmins scored twice and dished out seven assists for the Eskis in September.

Caron’s nine points has him sharing the league-lead among defencemen with Powassan’s Dayton Murray and Blind River’s Vincent Robbins.

Honourable Mention: Gregory Trudeau-Paquet, (F) French River Rapids; Bradey Johnson, (F) Rayside-Balfour Canadians
