Mantz the man as Voodoos improve to 2-0 with win over Rapids

POWASSAN, Ont. – Gary Mantz tallied twice, including the game-winner, and helped set-up another to lead the Powassan Voodoos to a 4-1 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportslex.

Mantz made his mark late in the opening period in the one notching the night’s first two goals to put the home side up a pair as he struck 69 seconds apart including a buzzer-beater at 19:59.

He then earned an assist on a Dayton Murray effort at 7:20 of the middle stanza.

The Voodoos kept coming and made it 4-0 at 15:58 with Dylan D’Agostino notching his first of the campaign.

French River picked up their lone goal of the night as Christian Gaudreau collected his second marker in as many nights for the Rapids.

Nate McDonald stopped 20 shots in posting the win for Powassan in his initial NOJHL start.

Scott Adams was busy in defeat for French River seeing 60 pucks fired his way in a losing cause.
