Eskis pull out narrow win vs. Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – A Josh Dejulio marker with 9:14 to go proved to be the game-winner as the Iroquois Falls Eskis skated to a close 3-1 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Eskis got on the board first on a Ryan Gruszka effort at 12:46 of the second.

French River responded with the equalizer during a man advantage opportunity as Kaden Hintz finished off the work of Matt Verreault and Brayden Crowe late in the frame.

It stayed that way until Dejulio’s eventual game-winner in the third.

Gruszka then secured the win for Iroquois Falls with an empty netter in the final minute to conclude the night’s scoring.

Shadow Reuben and Dillan Bruce both chipped in with two assists each to aid the Eskis’ cause.

Picking up the win in goal for the visitors was Trevor Hawkes as he made 36 saves.

Korlan Vader was busy making 53 stops in defeat for the Rapids.
