Erickson’s 5-point night sends Canadians past Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Ryan Erickson scored once and helped set-up four others to help power the Rayside-Balfour Canadians to a 6-1 victory over the French River Rapids Wednesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Noelville Arena.

After dropping the previous five games, Rayside-Balfour took control of the contest notching a power play goal by Erickson at 5:19 and an even strength effort courtesy of Ned Simpson midway through the opening period to take a 2-0 lead into the middle session.

In the second, the Canadians tacked on three more tallies to go up by five of markers Matthew Neault, Brody Brunet and Logan Lefebvre.

French River would get on the board late in the stanza as Brennan Kelly picked up his third of the campaign with 14 seconds left in the frame.

In the third Erickson capped off his five-point night as he assisted on a Bradley Chenier goal at 17:11 to round out the scoring.

MacKenzie Savard made his first start of the season for Rayside-Balfour and had 27 saves to pick up the win.

Chad Mosley started for the Rapids and suffered the loss allowing three against on 20 shots with Alec St. Georges stopping 26-0f 29 in relief.
