Elford’s 5-point night leads Elliot Lake over French River

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got two goals and three assists from David Elford to help lead them to a convincing 7-1 victory over the French River Rapids Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.

Brett Jacklin and Brett Crook also had solid nights for Elliot Lake recording four and three points respectively.

Jacklin started things off for the Wildcats 1:42 into the contest only to see Christian Gaudreau collect his seventh of the season at 6:51 while French River was on the power play to knot the affair at 1-1.

Jacklin added another before the first was complete as he supplied the eventual game-winner with three and a half minutes left in the frame.

Three tallies in just over under a four-minute span in the second stanza allowed Elliot Lake to break it open as Crook, Elford and Jacob Kelly all found the back of the net.

The Wildcats then put the game away in the third as Elford and Curtis Rawn scored to finish things off.

Justin Richer made 24 stops to record the win for Elliot Lake.

Al Rogers started for the Rapids and suffered the loss allowing five against on 37 shots in just under 32 minutes of work.

Korlan Vader came in and handled 11 of 13 in relief for French River.
