Crunch earn 5-2 triumph over Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got goals from five different skaters to help them earn a 5-2 triumph over the French River Rapids Sunday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Noelville Arena.

Cochrane opened the scoring midway through the first period as Bailey Shave collected his 10th tally of the season.

French River responded with the equalizer before the frame was complete thanks to Adrian Nicholas who picked up his fifth of the campaign at 17:14.

After Darian Harris of the Crunch and the Rapids’ Christian Gaudreau traded markers in the second, the visitors tacked on two more in the latter half of the middle stanza courtesy of Brandon McReynolds and Nate Viberg to go up 4-2 after two.

Kyle Herbster added some insurance for Cochrane with five and a half minutes left in regulation to round out the scoring.

Konnar Dechaine and Braeden Cross contributed to the offensive cause of the Crunch with two assists each.

Leighton Williams made 30 stops to register the win for Cochrane.

French River affiliate netminder Joel Rainville turned in an impressive performance in his NOJHL debut, despite suffering the setback, as he finished with 62 saves on 67 shots.
