Campbell collects 2 as Powassan skates over French River

POWASSAN, Ont. – David Campbell picked up a pair of goals for his fifth multi-point Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game of the season Friday to help pace the Powassan Voodoos to a 5-1 victory over the French River Rapids Friday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Campbell started the Voodoos, who were competing in their fourth outing in as many nights, off offensively with his first beating recently acquired Marshall Frappier in the French River net 13:38 in.

The Voodoos then extended their lead before the opening frame was complete as they notched the first of three man advantage markers they would contribute in the contest as Eric Allair converted at 19:05.

Heading to the middle frame, Powassan would tack on two more to add to their lead thanks to Henry Scott’s fifth, which came at even strength, along with Campbell’s second of the game and seventh overall during a power play.

Philippe Daoust put the visitors on the board early in the third as he finished off a Hunter Brazier feed before the Voodoos’ Thomas Yachemenev capped off the triumph by rounding out the scoring with just over six minutes remaining, while his side was up a skater.

Cade Herd dished out a trio assists for the hosts as he registered three points or more for the fifth time this season.

Yachmenev chipped in with a couple of helpers of his own to go with his tally.

Shots on goal favoured French River by a 33-29 count with Christian Cicigoi earning the win while Frappier suffered the setback in his NOJHL debut.
