FRENCH RIVER – Parker Bowman tallied twice to help the Powassan Voodoos skate to their sixth straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday as they defeated the French River Rapids 6-2 at Noelville Arena.
While the first frame was scoreless, Bowman got the Voodoos going 11 minutes into the second stanza as he tallied for a sixth straight game.
The Powassan forward then tacked on another a couple of shifts later with a man advantage effort as he collected his NOJHL-leading 11th tally of the season.
Special teams helped the visitors add another with a Joe Whitter man advantage marker.
French River did get one back before the second period was complete as Ty Chambers helped set-up Kyle Avery for his fourth to make it a 3-1 game following 40 minutes.
The Rapids then tacked on another at 5:57 into the third when Cameron Henderson picked up his first NOJHL tally.
Answering that, the Voodoos’ Tomas Yachmenev added some insurance for the guests with nine minutes remaining.
One more by Whittet, via the power play, and an even strength effort courtesy of Ty Nicholson in the late going rounded out the night’s scoring.
Owen Say made 30 saves to pick up the win in net for Powassan while Ben Montgomery faced 50 shots in a losing cause for French River.
