Wildcats’ Menary blanks Rapids

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Allan Menary turned aside all 30 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Elliot Lake Wildcats blanked the French River Rapids 5-0 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Centennial Arena.

After a scoreless opening frame, Elliot Lake picked up a pair of goals in the middle period from Alec MacKenzie and Troy Button to grab a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Wildcats added to it in the third tacking on tallies from Jason Wilson and Josef Kittelberger with their first goals of the campaign as well as Spencer MacLean’s fifth to round out the night’s scoring.

Connor Rider dished out a pair of assists to aid the offensive cause for Elliot Lake as they improved to 4-1-2-0 on the season.

Alec St. George saw 47 pucks fired his way in defeat for French River, who fell to 0-7 overall.
