Ton & Neault terrific as Canadians handle Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians got five points apiece from both Cayse Ton and Matthew Neault to help them handle the French River Rapids 9-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at Noelville Arena.

French River did get off to a solid start as they picked up the night’s opening tally 67 second in on a Jacob Uridil marker.

Rayside-Balfour came back later in the frame getting goals from Ton and Neault to go up 2-1 after one.

The Canadians then broke it open in the middle session as they struck for four unanswered efforts to go up 6-1 after 40 minutes.

Noah Serre started the offensive outburst for the visitors before Ton tallied twice to finish off a hat trick while Bryce O’Brien added one late for his side.

Rayside-Balfour’s Brett Whitehead and the Rapids’ Adrian Nicholas traded goals in the third before Canadians’ affiliate player Draper MacLean collected his first NOJHL marker at 11:50 and Neault added his second of the night 13th overall to wrap thing up.

Ian Robbie chipped in with two assists for RBC.

Owen Johansson made 16 stops to pick up the win for Rayside-Balfour with Cameron Lamour having three saves in a brief relief stint.

Evan Peltier was peppered with 54 shots in a losing cause for French River.
