Timmins doubles up French River 4-2

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Timmins Rock needed a pair of empty net tallies from Alexandre Brisson in the final minute to help them pull out a 4-2 win over the French River Rapids in a closely-contested Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Friday at Noelville Arena.

Adrian Nicholas opened the scoring for French River 6:37 into the first period.

Timmins came back with the equalizer at 11:52 when Wayne Mathieu picked up his 18th of the campaign.

It stayed 1-1 until late in the middle stanza when Dean Kiriacou of the Rock collected his first NOJHL marker with a minute and a half left in the session.

The Rapids pulled starter Korlan Vader late to try and get the equalizer, but Brisson scored into an empty net with 51 seconds remaining.

Battling back, French River moved back to within one on Nicholas’ second of the night; however Brisson added one more into an open net at 19:42 to round out the scoring.

Cole Gilligan chipped in with a pair of helpers for the Rock.

Al Rogers made 31 stops to record the victory with Vader facing 32 attempts in defeat.
