Powassan soars over French River

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got a goal and two assists from Michael Silveri and a 18-save shutout courtesy of Garrett Forrest to help them soar past the French River Rapids 7-0 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Monday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

It took the Voodoos six and a half minutes to open the scoring when Bo Peltier notched his fifth of the campaign.

Special teams allowed Powassan to go up by two as Daniel Golba connected at 15:30, late in a man advantage opportunity and run a point streak to four.

Second period action saw the Voodoos break it open as they struck four times in a span of eight minutes and 17 seconds to take full control on the contest.

Aaron Dart made it 3-0 midway through the stanza while Silveri added to the cushion on the next shift.

Powassan continued to produce offensively getting their fifth tally of the night thanks to Christian Whitcomb at 17:03.

Kyle Moore’s third overall for the Voodoos 46 seconds later upped their lead to six heading into the final frame.

Peltier then rounded out the night’s scoring in the late going with his second of the evening.

Moore, Golba and Eric Champagne had a pair of helpers each in the triumph.

Alec St-Georges faced 51 shots in defeat for French River.
